The Whole Cast
Ms. Mola - Meet the host of the show!
Ms. Mola truly loves learning, sharing and inventing new skills, and bringing that adventurous creative spirit alive in her visitors through all kinds of arts! Performed by Educator, Professional Performer and Singer/Composer Molly Conole (aka Mola Conola),
Ms. Mola has a respect for the creative spark in all, and an intense desire to draw it out of everyone, from youngest to oldest, and from those of all degrees of natural ability. Things like a nice pair of fabric scissors or some freshly sharpened colored pencils really get her going, though she is equally excited by the possibilities to be found in a ball of string, a holey sock, some old wood or a collection of recycled bottle caps!
The Kids
A group of 4-5 kids accompany Ms. Mola in each episode, representing a cross-section of kids around the world. They are as same and as different as the kids in your own neighborhood and home! They are also just as excited about learning artistic tricks and making things with their own hands that come from their own imaginations.
Grandma Safety-Pants
Ms. Mola’s lovable, eccentric grandma is always just a phone call or a thought away, ready to give helpful safety advice! Whether it’s a pair of scissors, a permanent marker or a can of paint, Grandma Safety-Pants speaks in rhyme or helpful slogans with safety as her prime concern! Wherever Ms. Mola and the kids are, and whatever they’re doing, they can always count on Grandma to be looking out for everyone’s well-being.
Guest Artists
Each episode features a segment with an actual working Artist, and an inspiring visit to their studio or workplace. Kids at Ms. Mola’s Make-ola! and at home will find lots to stimulate their own creativity by seeing the possibilities of things they might do when they grow up!
Sockytoe
An animated boy sock puppet character, Sockytoe has lots of energy! He is super creative, often very silly, but sometimes a little accident prone due to his excitement. He is very lovable and sweet, though, so his best friend Shosetta is happy to help him when things go crazy. In return, Sockytoe helps her with his boundless enthusiasm when she gets stuck or discouraged, too.
Shosetta
Sockytoe’s best friend, an animated girl sock puppet character named Shosetta, is always up for a creative adventure. She has a kind and thoughtful heart, though she sometimes gets discouraged and stuck when things don’t work out. That’s when Sockytoe will do something silly to make her laugh, and she’s back in the creative swing of things in no time!
Reece on his Cycle
The kids are always glad to have Reece on his Cycle pop by for a special delivery! He has a soft spot in his heart for the little things in life, and is never too busy to notice a tin can or paper towel roll destined for the garbage that he knows the kids could make something cool out of! He lives an earth-friendly existence in a wind and solar powered home that he built himself out of recycled materials, complete with flourishing garden fed by a water re-using system. He is well-loved by everyone in town, and seems to show up just when you need him!
Miss Teree
Pronounced “Miss Teh-REE,” she is a cool and fashionable world explorer who pops in for on-line video chats with Ms. Mola and the Kids, excited about interesting facts she can’t wait to share! Whether it’s a cultural story learned on-location, an interesting crafty technique, unusual artistic discovery, or always-developing environmental tid-bit, Miss Teree can’t wait to let everyone know, and then she’s on her never-ending quest for more info!
No-Mola
No-Mola is a puppet who is everything Ms. Mola is not…and yet she looks surprisingly like her…what’s up with that? Giving voice to the cranky nature in all of us, No-Mola never wants to do anything that involves effort, is bored, irritable, hates recycling, and can never be satisfied! Appearing out of nowhere, No-Mola says the things that express kids’ fears in a comic way, ultimately digging herself into a hole somehow, allowing us all to recognize and laugh at the darkest and crankiest parts of ourselves.
THE RECYC-OLAS!
Meet the newest characters in the Make-ola family - the Recyc-olas! Here they are in their real and animated versions - each one is made of 100% recycled materials! These characters will be featured in the upcoming recycling-themed web game "We Can Waste Wise!" which will launch on PBS webistes in May 2010: www.wdsc.org and www.wfsu.org.
